Week 1 Reflection

What is a good leader?

A good leader needs to be a good listener and an effective communicator.
A leader is brave and is able to take risk and try new ideas.
A leader cares about people and is reliable and trustworthy.
A leader inspires their followers and shares leadership with them.
A leader is positive and future focused.
A leader collaborates with their followers
In a school with authentic relationships any person can be a leader, Crippen (2012).
Authentic leaders puts the interest of the group ahead of their own personal agenda.
Relationships are at the heart of the process of schooling.

We discussed the question: "Are you a good follower?"

Digital:

  • Video editing: I found it difficult to be creative as we ran out of time. So we went for the simplest option. I want to do better next time and I need to refresh my memory of how to use a video making programme.
  • How would I like to record and perhaps share my learning with a wider community? I think I will use blogger. I have used it in the past so I think it will be familiar enough for me.
  • How is "my understanding of the purpose of education" visible in my teaching environment? It's not particularly visible in terms of visual displays but our teaching practices are beginning to reflect our values and dispositions. The way we are assessing and documenting learning and providing learning experiences is empowering for our students and we are catering for diverse learners.
